Trackting DOT - Frequently Asked Questions
What is Trackting DOT?
Trackting DOT is the Trackting GPS anti-theft device built into TPZ Italia seats. The device is hidden inside the seat: it can't be seen, it doesn't need installing, and it alerts you with a phone call if someone moves your motorcycle, tracking it in real time throughout Europe.
Where can I buy Trackting DOT?
Trackting DOT is available built into the complete seats sold by TPZ Italia. It is not sold on the trackting.com shop.
Which motorcycles can it be fitted to?
Trackting DOT is available on TPZ Italia complete seats, in the models where it is offered (click here to see them).
How much does the subscription cost and what does it include?
The subscription costs €39 per year and includes the built-in SIM, data traffic, unlimited alarm calls and notifications, firmware updates and customer support. The first 14 days from initial activation are included. You purchase it in the App. There is no automatic renewal: you will still receive emails and notifications as the expiry date approaches.
Warning: if the service is not renewed, your vehicle will no longer be protected.
What happens after the 14 included days?
To keep using Trackting DOT, you need to activate the €39 annual subscription. There is no automatic renewal: you will still receive emails and notifications as the expiry date approaches.
Warning: if the service is not renewed, your vehicle will no longer be protected.
In which countries does it work?
With an active subscription, Trackting DOT works in all these countries: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Jersey, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan.
How is it different from Trackting SMART?
They use the same technology and the same App, but are designed for different needs.
Trackting DOT is built into the seat: there's nothing to hide or install. It works throughout Europe with an annual subscription.
Trackting SMART is a standalone device that you add to your vehicle (motorcycle, scooter, car, camper). You buy it and place it inside the car or hide it on the motorcycle using the supplied double-sided tape or cable ties. It has no subscription fee. It is sold on trackting.com and is available in versions with Italy, Europe or World coverage.
What if I sell the motorcycle or the seat?
Remove DOT from your account in the App: whoever buys the motorcycle will be able to activate it with their own account. Go to the App and tap Delete device. That's it.
How long is the warranty?
Trackting DOT comes with a 2-year warranty.
How did Trackting come about?
The creator of the Trackting technology is Claudio Carnevali, CEO of Trackting.
Rome, 8 April 2016: Claudio goes out on his beloved Hornet and skids. Nothing serious, it happens! Back home, he parks the bike outside his house and, 2 hours later, discovers it's gone.
The disappointment, the dismay and the awareness that these criminals would likely go unpunished drove him to react as best he could: he decided to create the best anti-theft device possible, to give himself back the peace of mind to buy another bike and enjoy it without the anguish of that experience.
Today that technology protects thousands of vehicles and, with Trackting DOT, it is built directly into a motorcycle component such as the seat, thanks to TPZ Italia.
What are the differences with Apple's AirTag?
The main differences are these:
1) AirTag DOES NOT ALERT YOU IN CASE OF THEFT
Trackting DOT is a true anti-theft device that calls you in case of theft. AirTags, on the other hand, do not alert you: they are anti-loss devices for objects (keys, wallets, backpacks, luggage) that communicate via Bluetooth at a maximum distance of 30 metres.
2) Trackting DOT IS ALWAYS CONNECTED
Trackting DOT has a built-in SIM that connects to the cellular network, so it always works, no matter how far you are from the motorcycle, even in isolated places: you will always receive the alarm and the tracking. AirTag, on the other hand, relies on the "Find My" network of Apple devices and only works when it passes near an iPhone.
3) REAL SATELLITE LOCATION
Trackting DOT uses an active GPS antenna that leverages three satellite systems (GPS, Galileo and Glonass) and tracks the moving motorcycle in real time, also indicating its direction and speed. AirTag derives its position from the nearest Apple device.
4) AirTag CAN BE DETECTED BY ANYONE
AirTag is ineffective in case of theft because, if a thief moves a vehicle equipped with an AirTag, they get notified about it on their smartphone!
How long does the battery last? How do you recharge it?
The battery lasts 6 months in standby conditions.
With standard use (a home-to-work commute, i.e. 2 parking stops a day), the average life is between 3 and 4 months.
The factors that can reduce battery life are:
- a higher number of parking stops (with 10 parking stops a day, the battery drains proportionally);
- areas where the cellular signal is on average low (below 3 on the signal indicator in the App);
- stops in garages where the cellular or GPS signal is poor or absent, because the device tries to connect multiple times;
- alarm events, during which the device sends the thief's position while moving.
To recharge the battery, connect the USB-C cable to the port on the seat and to a smartphone charger or a power bank. When charging is complete, you'll receive a notification in the App.
Can I leave Trackting DOT on charge all the time?
No, the cable should only be connected while charging and unplugged when you receive the charging complete notification.
While it is connected to a power supply, the device does not record events and does not send notifications: in the event of a theft attempt, it would not be able to send the notification, the alarm call or the tracking.
Warning: do not ride with the cable connected to the seat's USB-C port, even if it is not powered. Vibrations while riding could damage the connector and void the warranty.
How many alarm calls can I receive?
When the alarm goes off, Trackting DOT places a call to the number registered in your account in the App, as well as sending a notification to your smartphone.
IMPORTANT: you must always reject the call without answering (the red button on your phone).
Save all the alarm numbers in your contacts: +1 830 444 4666 – +39 0721 176 0423 – +31 970 102 40666 – +44 7418 372710, and set them as favourite contacts so that your phone rings even in "Silent" or "Do Not Disturb" mode.
It is not a control room: there are no operators who answer, so you must never call these numbers.
Alarm calls are unlimited if you do not answer or if you reject the call. If, however, you answer or your voicemail picks up, you have a maximum of 5 calls per month. If you use up your monthly calls, you will still always receive notifications.
NOTE: with some operators, voicemail picks up automatically even if you reject the call or do not answer. In this case, one of the 5 monthly calls is used up. To disable voicemail, you can follow the guide here.
How many additional Tags can I pair?
You can pair up to 3 Tags in total with the same Trackting DOT.
Can I pair the same Tag with multiple devices and use it for several vehicles?
No, each Tag can only be paired with one device at a time.
What is the margin of error of the GPS position?
To achieve a battery life on the order of months, we have also optimised the management of the GPS receiver.
In Parking mode, the standard error ranges between 5 and 30 metres, while in Alarm mode (while the thief is fleeing) the system switches to high precision with an error of less than 5 metres.
The error depends on several factors, such as satellite signal coverage. If the motorcycle is parked where there is no view of the sky, the position may be less accurate. The same happens if metal or shielding objects, such as a chain or a lock, are placed on the seat.
To check that everything is working correctly:
- make sure there are no metal or shielding objects on the seat;
- take a ride of a couple of minutes out in the open air;
- park outdoors and walk at least 30 metres away with the Tag;
- wait for the parking confirmation notification;
- check the position on the map.
If there is no cellular signal in my garage, is the motorcycle protected?
Yes, Trackting DOT activates in the event of theft and sends you the location and notification as soon as it manages to connect to the cellular network.
What happens if there is no satellite signal (GPS) coverage in my garage?
In an underground garage or one with a particularly thick ceiling, GPS coverage may not be available, so you will not see the position on the map.
The motorcycle remains protected all the same: in the event of theft, Trackting DOT immediately registers the alarm, sends the notification and provides the updated position as soon as it picks up the signal again outside.
Can I use a SIM card other than the built-in one?
No. The built-in SIM is a special SIM that automatically connects to the best operator available wherever the motorcycle is, minimising the risk of finding yourself in an area without coverage. Data traffic and alarm calls are already included in the subscription.
I need to load my motorcycle onto a ferry or ship. What should I do?
During transport on a ferry, the device will almost certainly go into alarm mode due to the constant movement caused by the waves.
Trackting DOT will try to connect to the network to report the alarm, but as you move away from the coast there will be no cellular network, and this will almost certainly cause the battery to fully drain.
To avoid this, keep the Tag close to the seat during the crossing, so that Alarm mode is not triggered.
Will I receive the alarm phone call if I have an international dialling code?
The phone call in case of an alarm is available exclusively for mobile numbers from the following countries:
Austria (+43), Belgium (+32), Bulgaria (+359), Cyprus (+357), Croatia (+385), Denmark (+45), Estonia (+372), Finland (+358), France (+33), Germany (+49), Gibraltar (+350), Greece (+30), Guernsey (+44), Ireland (+353), Iceland (+354), Jersey (+44), Isle of Man (+44), Italy (+39), Latvia (+371), Lithuania (+370), Luxembourg (+352), Malta (+356), Monaco (+377), Norway (+47), Netherlands (+31), Poland (+48), Portugal (+351), United Kingdom – UK (+44), Czech Republic (+420), Slovak Republic (+421), Romania (+40), Slovenia (+386), Spain (+34), Sweden (+46), Switzerland (+41), Hungary (+36)
I have two phones, can I manage Trackting DOT from both at the same time?
Yes, bearing in mind that the Trackting App is for exclusive and personal use. Just install the App on both smartphones and log in with the same credentials.
Even though you can monitor the device from several smartphones, the alarm call goes to only one number: the one linked to the account.
NB: since the App contains sensitive data, do not share your credentials with other people!
Can I manage multiple Trackting devices from a single phone?
Yes. You can pair as many Trackting devices as you want with the same App and monitor all your vehicles at the same time.
Who knows my motorcycle's location? And what about privacy?
On this point we are particularly "fanatical"! No one can know the location of your motorcycle, not even us: the location data is encrypted.
In Parking mode, Trackting DOT saves only the last parking position, without recording a history.
In Alarm mode, it stores and displays the last position of the motorcycle so that you can recover it.
WARNING: Trackting DOT is not a fleet or vehicle tracker. It is an anti-theft device, so it tracks the motorcycle only in the event of theft.
Made in Italy?
Yes. The Trackting device is developed in Rome and manufactured in the Marche region. The seat is made by TPZ Italia, an Italian company with decades of craftsmanship behind it and a byword for excellence in the industry.
